Vitamins for Getting Pregnant and Beyond
from:Despite what you may see on ad campaigns there is no vitamin on the market that will increase the odds of conception. That isn’t to say that vitamins for getting pregnant don’t exist. Most of the time the best thing to do in the time period before getting pregnant is to take prenatal vitamins, eat a healthy diet, and do all of the important things you would be doing if you were already pregnant. Many doctors and experts highly suggest taking prenatal supplements as soon as you make the decision to begin trying to conceive your child.
Let’ s talk about the most well known of the vitamins for getting pregnant family. Folic acid is an important vitamin for all women to have, but especially so for those who are trying to conceive or are already pregnant. Taking folic acid before getting pregnant is a good way of adjusting your body to the compound and creating a more perfect temporary home for your new little one. Studies have shown that having an adequate supply of folic acid in the body can reduce the risk of neural tube defects in unborn children by up to 70%. It is easy to see why this is an important part of pre conception care.
Another important member of the important vitamins for getting pregnant and after conception family is iron. During pregnancy this mineral is essential and unfortunately many women don’t get enough from just the food they eat. Iron is instrumental in the production of blood, and since women produce more blood while pregnant, an adequate iron supply is very important. Taking this supplement helps to prevent a mother to be from developing iron deficiency anemia during pregnancy. A woman’s requirement for iron is increased by 50% when she is carrying a child.
There are a couple of important nutrients and vitamins for getting pregnant that aren’t found in prenatal vitamins. Calcium is present in prenatal vitamins but not in the necessary amount. Most of them contain between 100 and 200 milligrams. Considering that women need 1000 mg per day whether they are pregnant or not, it is important to get the necessary amount from food. During pregnancy it is important to replace the calcium being taken from your bones to support the growing baby. None of the essential fatty acids are found in prenatal vitamins either. They help with the development of the baby’s eyes, brain, and nerve system. Fish, like salmon, is a good source of these acids.
While there no vitamins for getting pregnant per say, it is a good idea to prepare your body for its upcoming pregnancy challenge by eating well and taking a high quality prenatal vitamin.
